Turning Points
“Happy New Year!!!” Over and over we give and receive this greeting in the course of a year, particularly at the beginning. With a new year comes renewed hope, fresh determination and a sincere quest for higher heights and deeper seas. Our latter just has to be better than yesterday. I started 2019 by considering the things I had at hand and thanking God for the opportunity of a new year. There are two incidents that I recall when thinking of false expectation. The first took place during my early high school years. Boarding School was a place of adventure for me. Not many people will describe their experience of boarding school in West Africa with such words, but I really looked forward to going back to school every term. I had looked forward to being a wife so much so that it seemed being one was an end in itself. I never really saw myself as anything more than a working wife and mother. Somewhere along the way, I put a glass ceiling on any type of ambition and fulfilling my personal dreams which are not linked to anyone else. I stopped dreaming full stop.
