Me,a Daddy’s girl?
The month of June is here again and I look back to two years ago, when we could not celebrate Mother’s Day as usual and even the Father’s Day in June was met with mixed reactions. Although there were changes in the Lockdown rules, people could not really visit their father’s without thinking about putting them at risk. I am happy that we have the pandemic behind us now and hopefully visits to our Fathers in this month of June will be back to normal. But normal for me means I would not be paying my father a visit although let me admit, that the thought crossed my mind. I…

A closed mind
As any regular school morning would go, we were all rushing. Rushing to get dressed. Rushing to eat. Rushing to get in the car. We were finally ready and then I heard a commotion behind me. The twins were arguing 🤦🤦. What was really the issue? Who would stay on a particular side of the car? And I heard “it’s my turn” “can’t you shift” “I want to go thru this way” and plenty other arguments. Back story; they have obviously come up with a system about who sits where on which day, for the sake of equality. And someone else was not following the rules. The irony of this…

Is Sex overated?
BED ROOM, BOARD ROOM , BALL ROOM AND NEWS ROOM, DOES SEX MATTER? Sex is overrated! Oh yes, you read me right. As someone who makes a livelihood from sex, believe me when I tell you that sex is over-rated. However, sex sells. Are you wondering what the difference is? Let me explain. From the North Pole to the South Pole, from the big bang to the blackhole and from the Garden of Eden to the present, sex sold, sex sells and will continue to sell. Ever wondered why Lucifer posed as a the snake and went to Eve? Why did Lucifer son of the morning not go to Adam?…

I messed up
Stories about an ‘Ex’ can seem juicy when you walked away with the better deal; but not so much when you are the one who got dumped or dupped. Being an ‘Ex’ anything, still associates you with that thing, implying it is a part of your story, even though it is no longer a part of you. I guess that is why an Ex-Con will still struggle with employment, or an Ex-addict is still advised to stay away from whatever he/she was addicted to. Even an Ex-President still enjoys certain presidential benefits. The status is in the past, but its scent somehow lingers in the present, whether good or bad……

Friends as Neighbours ?
Hmmm, where do I start? In reality, we have neighbours from the moment we are born. We don’t call our family ‘neighbours’ but living with fellow humans in any proximity is the beginning of the neighbourly experience. If we discount family, then for some of us, our first ‘housemate’ experience might have been boarding school i.e., during secondary education, or at the University. In my boarding school, we were approximately forty students between the ages of ten and seventeen, in a massive room. You had a bunkmate, as the beds were 6-spring Iron bunkbeds, and you had 2 or more side mates, depending on which corner you got. While boarding…

Peaceful Neighbours?
Sometime in 2019, I desperately needed to move out of the apartment I was in for many reasons, two of which were, the services the landlord was providing me were way below par, and my tenancy was long overdue. Before you start to judge me, know that it was not my intention to overstay my welcome. I had initially indicated my intention to new the tenancy on the condition that the landlord fixed some of the obvious issues the property had. However, for whatever reason, he was taking longer than needed to get to it, hence the need to move out urgently. I sat down in my living room that…

Neighbourly tips
Troublesome neighbours are a reality of life and are not restricted to certain climes. Sometime ago I was asking my brother if he had received a parcel I had sent for his children and somehow our conversation shifted to his neighbours. You see depending on the area you live in sometimes, it might be possible for your neighbours to collect from the postman a parcel of yours in your absence. This would save you the trouble of going to the delivery office to pick up the parcel. So I was enquiring if his neighbours did this for each other and he explained that his neighbours were not on talking…

Be Prepared 2
Last week Friday, Jasmine was urging all of us to “be prepared “this year. She especially mentioned us being prepared for the good, the bad and the ugly. I thought about the examples she mentioned and it occurred to me that sometimes we are not prepared for some of the “ugly” aftermath of having relationships. As long as we are dealing with people, be it with our spouses, partners, friends, work colleagues or even neighbours, we all need to be prepared for times when there would be disappointments, disagreements, offences and betrayals. Irrespective of the fact that these are not always deliberate, the pain felt can be real and can…

Count their blessings
So it is the last day of the year and I have both the privilege and the responsibility of writing a post I have thought of a thousand and one things to write and I feel like they all boil down to one thing which you most probably have been hearing since the countdown to the year end started.. As common as the theme has been, there is a counter one which might not be proclaimed so loudly but seems to be what is seething in the background. So where are you? Amongst those who are moaning and grumbling or among those who have chosen to be grateful. It is…

Count your blessings
Merry Christmas Everyone! Wow! It’s a few more days till the end of this year and I am feeling very grateful, especially at this time of year – Christmas. My son says he’s been dreaming of Father Christmas every day since we entered December. Somehow all he can think of are the presents he hopes to get. I had to ask him if I would get a present and he replied “Grownups don’t get presents Mummy!” Can you imagine! And while all the lights are coming out and there is general cheer in the air, there is also the need to reflect on the last twelve months and take stock.…
