Love in the Ordinary Places
Sometimes we want to cross seven rivers and climb seven mountains to find true love buyt more often than not, love is just around the corner in your neighbourhood and in your network. Rather than looking for it in the mystical and insisting on the fairy tale happenings, we might need to recognize the love that has been conveniently placed right in front of our eyes, sometimes during the course of our everyday work. And so I found these radiographs (if you know you know) which one of my colleagues sent Wishing us a Happy Valentine reminding me of the fact that we can all find and share love in…

Our Expectations.
I usually give a lot of thought when purchasing a gift and part of my satisfaction comes from knowing that the recipient was pleased with my choice. Last year after the Christmas celebrations, I called a very close friend who happens to be the mother of my godchildren (a set of twins) to find out how their Christmas went. Due to the Lock-down restrictions’, I was not able to travel down but the last time I was in their city, I had bought and given the children’s presents to another friend. She was to help me deliver the items if I did not get back to their town for Christmas…

Love at Christmas
Christmas is one of the most loved periods of the year but it does have the capacity to be the most stressful and the peculiarity of this year has not changed the dynamics.Family members and some relatives we do not necessarily like all have to be at one place for a reasonable length of time, making the perfect recipe for emotional outbursts and quarrels. And sometimes you do not even need the relatives to cause the problem because the home is filled with tension as couples battle with the financial obligations that the season brings .When it comes to Christmas, everyone seems to get into the default mode of receiving gifts as their …

Someone like You
Someone like You….sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead…. Someone like You….sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead…. I believe one of the reasons why Adele’s song by that title in 2011 made one of the greatest hits was the fact that it resonated with so many people. Almost everyone has had the pain of heartbreak no matter how someone else might try to trivialize it. I am not talking about those relationships which one gleefully ends but the ones that looked so promising (as far as you thought). Just about when the inflated balloon wanted to fly, a league of demons gathered with…

Broken Promises
Today would have been the last day in February but the privileges of a leap year afford the opportunity for one more day in this month of love. Saint Valentine’s day has come and gone with the effects of a double-edged sword. For some people, it was a confirmation and celebration of love while for some others, it solved mysteries and brought miseries as they discovered that their partners had been cheating on them. In recent times, there has been an increase in the intensity of violence propagated by spouses/partners in the wake of a betrayal discovery. From verbal assaults to attempts to cut off the organ perpetrating evil, cheating…

All by myself
Self-pride: It is an overdose of self-love added to a good portion of self-confidence multiplied by a cathedral size of self-esteem minus even the tiniest fraction of the condition called selfishness.” I don’t know if am the only one that tried to memorize this as I read Loretta’s write-up about self-love, it got me thinking, and saying to myself if every woman would teach self-love to her daughter, I believe we will have a better chance of our daughters growing up and having a healthy dose of self-esteem so much that there won’t be incidences of killing husbands/boyfriends in a jealousy fit (it worries me as it has become one…

Self Love & Self Reboot
It is February when ‘everyone’ is busy getting ready for Valentine – did you just say not everyone under your breath as you read this? Not to worry, I shall oblige you and substitute the word with the phrase ‘many people across the world’. Welcome to February 2020! Often termed the ‘month of love’, this second month of the year in the Julian calendar is originally from the word Februarius which is a Latin word that means ‘to purify’. The Romans reserved Februarius as the month of purification and cleansing holding the February celebrations every 15th Day of the month. Then along came Valentine’s Day on February 14th which celebrates…

When Love is a Lie 2
Stephanie was very embarrassed when some family friends came visiting and asked after her husband. He had left the house as usual without informing her about his whereabouts. It was now his norm, although she had spoken to him about it severally. He was the owner of the house and did as he pleased. When he was around, he minded his computer and hardly ever helped with the children. He only gave orders, correcting her like a child and demanding to know how she had spent every penny. She was always having to gauge his mood before she brought up any topic The few times she tried to talk about…

When Love is a Lie
The hall was filled with guests all gallantly dressed to the kill. Sitting down in the congregation, it was difficult to discern the distinct scents of the several perfumes that filled the air. Everyone looked happy after all that is what people were meant to be when they came for a wedding. The groom was already at the altar and the bride had just started walking in. People seemed to have taken the cue from an invisible signal and everyone stood to their feet as they watched her majestic march till she got to where her groom was but instead of stopping, she walked past him and took the side…

Love is NOT enough
If LOVE was what kept a marriage, then mine would have outshone eternity. I loved my husband and even the devil could testify to that. I had dreams for my home right from the time I was a child. Like almost every woman, I dreamt about the big day and the many happy loving years after that I had read about in those girly novels. My husband(let’s call him Eugene) and I met back in my home country and started a relationship which did not materialize, shortly after which he left the country. Not long after he relocated, I did also and we renewed contact. I had the right legal…
